Matera Full Day

The visit begins at the Archaeological Park of Murgia Timone with the astonishing panoramic view of the Sassi from Belvedere, a suggestive cinematographic location for the representation of Golgotha and the passion of Christ in Mel Gibson’s film “The Passion”.

Visit to the rock church of Madonna delle tre Porte and journey through prehistoric human settlements and pastoral communities with the identification of plant species typical of the park.

Return to the city and visit of the Sassi districts: panoramic stop on the Sasso Caveoso at the Belvedere of Piazzetta Pascoli; entrance in the Sasso Caveoso, Piazza San Pietro Caveoso and visit to the peasant museum “cave house”, typically furnished house. Optional visit to the rock churches of Santa Lucia alle Malve and / or Santa Maria de Idris;

Lunch break

In the afternoon visit to the medieval area with a stop at the Cathedral Basilica. Walk in the Sasso Barisano along the panoramic ridge of Via Madonna delle Virtù and stop at the artisan workshop of ceramic manufacturing. Visit to Piazza Vittorio Veneto with a stop at the Santo Spirito rock church and a stop at the churches of San Domenico and Cavalieri di Malta.
